Ghazal Analysis

Ghazal 1

Ramkrishna Das

At least, for the sake of hurting I beg you to come to me
Long before the saddest parting I beg you to come to me

I am not demanding you to bestow me treasure of love
Once for the sake of acting I beg you to come to me —

If you think your love for me can be expressed by hiding it
Long before you hid that feeling I beg you to come to me

It is my sinister luck that I don't make a proper match
For you are extremely charming I beg you to come to me

With your all lame excuses don't make Archi's life a hell
One day, for never returning I beg you to come to me

Love and Hate

That’s what family is there for,

Although there are days when we really hate,

It is the love that hems the tore,

Sometimes your presence is such a bore,

But yet I always seem to be await,

That’s what family is there for,

It’s best just to simply ignore,

But without your words I feel no weight,

It is the love that hems the tore,

When we clash it’s a belligerent war,

But what I need is a sturdy gate,

That’s what family is there for,

I can feel emptiness start to pour,

But you feel the same so I can relate,

It is the love that hems the tore,

Without your footsteps there is no floor,

The shower of happiness starts to abate,

That’s what family is there for,

It is the love that hems the tore,

I Think Of Friendship...

I think of friendship as a sewing thread,

A kind that binds the two hearts of two souls,

It’s there for us when things are torn and shred,

And to cover up all the tattered holes,

I think of friendship as a golden chain,

Linking memories from past and present,

Sometimes filled with moments that seem inane,

But nothing I feel that was not worth spent,

I think of friendship as a violin,

The music may go on and off some days,

But the strings will always be placed within,

And at the music we will stand amaze,

I think of friendship like a fragile glass,

Once it is broken it will be the last,

Sonnet

On His Blindness

By Milton

When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent which is death to hide,
Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide;
"Doth God exact day-labor, light denied?"
I fondly ask; but Patience to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts; who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is Kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er land and ocean without rest;
They also serve who only stand and wait."

If We Must Die

Claude McKay

If we must die, let it not be like hogs

Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,

While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,

Making their mock at our accursed lot.

If we must die, O let us nobly die,

So that our precious blood may not be shed

In vain; then even the monsters we defy

Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!

O kinsmen! We must meet the common foe!

Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,

And for their thousand blows deal one deathblow!

What though before us lies the open grave?

Like men we’ll face the murderous, cowardly pack,

Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

Ballad

This is the story of Mary and Mo,

A boy and girl who once fell in love,

It’s a sad story so please be aware,

That it may leave you in despair,

Mary worked at the fields all day,

Never to be seen far away,

Watching upon her was a strange fellow,

One with a name of mysterious Mo,

One day he came up to her and said,

“Ms, may I help you?” and went ahead,

She watched him in deep admiration,

As he worked in the big plantation,

Everyday they worked together,

And despite the coldness of the weather,

They never left each other’s side,

Promising until the day they die,

Two years later Mary lay in her bed,

Sick with disease and almost dead,

Mo mourned as the days passed by,

And could not part with her to say good-bye,

The tree stands alone,
Never to be united,
Abandoned and lost,

A pathway unknown,
Eroded and washed away,
Mysteries hidden

A violent roar,
Streaks of light extending far,
The night skies of earth
------------------------------------------------
Rose petals falling,
Carried away by the winds,
Taken somwhere far

Happy Halloween,
A crowd of clamorous kids,
Eager for candy

Choose two of the following and write your response on your blog (at least 6 sentences):
(1)If you could give any gift in the world, what would you give and to whom?
My first desire would be to a home to every homeless animal out there. Everyday, these poor animals search for shelter and food, but many die. These animals deserve this treatment because they make wonderful companions for humans and have done no wrong in the process. They should not be lurking in dark alleys and struggling out in the rain. They deserve a cozy home and a good owner. After all, what crime did they commit?

(7) What do you think about people who are inconsiderate of others?
I think lowly of people who lack consideration. One must always (or at least make a goodly effort) to respect others and be considerate. Keeping an open mind and staying thoughtful is how we secure good relations among other people. Although it's important to be content with our own needs and desires, making sacrifices for the benefit of other people is one way how we view consideration. However, if a person is ignorant and takes no account to other people's opinions, it only harms them in an unhealthy way. They lose respect and eventually become isolated from the rest of the group.
